Sunday Spotlight: Neal Adams

Neal Adams - Batman, Deadman, etc artist - produced some fantastic work. You can see how Alan Davis was influenced by his clean but detailed style. More of Neal Adams art can be seen at his official site and elsewhere.

Sunday Spotlight: Dale Keown

Another Image artist, this time Dale Keown and his wonderfully muscled and powerful Hulk - and Pitt. See more of Dale's art at Full Bleed, the Comic Art Community and the Comic Vine.

Sunday Spotlight: Erik Larsen

I love Erik's crazy detailed work on the Savage Dragon and his fiddly web strands on Spiderman. A fantastic 90s-style artist with an energetic cartoony style.
See more of Erik's work at the Savage Dragon web site, the Comic Art Community site and at the Comic Vine.

Sunday Spotlight: Cliff Chiang

I've only really seen Cliff Chiang's artwork on the Dr Thirteen series but I think his art is gorgeous. And his women are wonderfully cheeky.
See more of Cliff's art at his website or here.

Sunday Spotlight: Alan Davis

What can I say say about Alan Davis. He has to be my favourite comic book artist ever. Who's also worked on some of my favourite comics of all time - Captain Britain, Excalibur, Avengers, Clandestine and more. His clear, smooth, rounded style is simply... perfect.

I could post images all day. But instead, if you want more, head over to Alan Davis' official web site or to this comic art site.

Sunday Spotlight: Bryan Hitch

What can I say about Bryan Hitch? His work is phenomenal.

I first saw his work on Uncanny X-Men, where he was pretty much an Alan Davis imitator (and, yes, I plan to spotlight Alan Davis sometime in the future). Even then his work was good but since then he's become much better - his art becoming more 'realistic'. Of course, he's best known for his 'widescreen' work on the Authority and the Ultimates, both of which were excellent.

More of his work can be seen all over the web but have a look here, here and here for some great Hitchy pictures.

Sunday Spotlight: Mike Wieringo

Unfortunately, Mike Wieringo is no longer with us but as soon as I saw his art I loved it. I only really caught his fantastic figurework on the Fantastic Four and he captured the world's greatest heroes perfectly. Looking at his site, every one of his pictures looks wonderful - it's difficult to pick three. So I went with Kitty and Lockheed (because I love those characters), the FF (of course) and a brilliant Cap and Supes pic, below.

See more at Mike's official site and his deviant art site.

Sunday Spotlight: Romeo Tanghal

After George Perez last week, I thought it made sense to highlight one of his collaborators - Romeo Tanghal. Although not well known, Romeo was the inker on the Teen Titans when Perez was pencilling them. I loved the Titans during this time and hence the picture of Wonder Girl / Donna Troy - one of my favourite Titans during my hormonal teenage years.

Above that is a picture of the Omega Men that Tanghal worked on, which includes my namesake - Nimbus (well, my online name anyway). Ya gotta love the pale, pointy-eared guy.

You can see more of Romeo Tanghal's work at this site.

Sunday Spotlight: George Perez

The above picture was produced as part of the JLA/Avengers crossover series and shows what George Perez is renowned for - group shots. The above perhaps isn't the best - or most overwhelming - example although the image at the end of this post certainly is. George Perez is easily one of my favourite comic book artists of all time. Ever since his early work on Marvel's Avengers, and then on DC's New Teen Titans, I've loved his clean, dynamic style.

More of George Perez's art can be found at his website.

Sunday Spotlight: Dave Gibbons

To start off both Watchmen Week and Sunday Spotlight, here's some art drawn by one of Britain's best artists and co-creator of the Watchmen series - Dave Gibbons. Originally, I remember Dave Gibbons from his art on Harlem Heroes and Robusters in Starlord and then 2000AD. Although I didn't much care for the Harlem Heroes (basketball players in rocket-packs?!) I thought the pictures were impressive and very detailed.

Of course, Dave has also produced other work, such as on Doctor Who (see above) and Green Lantern, but he's best known for his work on Watchmen. The first image above is taken from the cover of the Watchmen RPG (I think).

For more Dave Gibbons goodness, see
his fansite or the Art Droids site. DC Comics also has a Watchmen minisite containing some of his sketches and art.

Sunday Spotlight

I'm going to be running a regular feature here on PRN called Sunday Spotlight. Hopefully, this will appear every Sunday, as the title suggests, and will spotlight comic book artists that I like (for some reason or other).

I'll be posting two or three eye-popping images of the chosen artist's work together with a link or two to elsewhere on the internet to find more of their work. That should hopefully brighten up the place!

The artists (usually pencillers) will not be listed in any particular order; they'll just appear randomly, everyone from the good to the great. Will Rob Liefeld make the list? Erm, probably not.

That's the plan. Pretty pictures every Sunday when I normally wouldn't be posting 'cos I'm lazy. We'll see whether I keep up with it, eh?
